Steve Sarkisian Officially Names Texas Football's Starting Quarterback

Texas Football: 5 Priorities for New Coach Steve Sarkisian in 2021

Steve Sarkisian

Is Texas finally back? Only time will tell. First, the Longhorns have to find their next star quarterback. Steve Sarkisian has one guy in mind.

Steve Sarkisian has officially named Quin Ewers his starting quarterback for the upcoming 2022 college football season. Ewers, the Ohio State transfer, beats out the more-experienced Hudson Card for the starting gig.

A big announcement at Texas football that could have a drastic impact on the Longhorns' 2022 season.

"Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has named Quinn Ewers the starting quarterback," said Brian Davis.

The announcement was made through a Texas SID, who interrupted a press conference with three players to make the announcement.

Davis added, "How this came down today was odd. Texas brought three players to interviews. Then, just out of the blue, Texas SID John Bianco said he had a message from Sark. Quinn Ewers is the starter. You could’ve hear a pin drop. Wow."

A strange delivery, but noteworthy regardless. Card completed 61.4 percent of his throws for 590 yards with five touchdowns and one pick last season.

Sarkisian clearly feels that Quinn Ewers has higher upside, though. After all, he's a former five-star recruit. The talent is there.
