Red Raiders Land Top FCS Safety Cole Wisniewski in Transfer Portal
The Texas Tech Red Raiders hired Shiel Wood to re-tool the defense for 2025, and the team is hitting the transfer portal hard to find improvements.
New defensive coordinator Shiel Wood and his staff are finding early success.
We found out on Wednesday that Tech landed a commitment from one of the top FCS safeties in the portal.
North Dakota State safety Cole Wisniewski has chosen Lubbock for his home in 2025 per multiple reports.
Wisniewski was an FCS All-American in 2023 and one of the best players at that level on a team that has produced multiple NFL players. He led all Division I players with eight interceptions that season but missed all of 2024 due to an injury.
The Sparta, Wisconsin, native should be a shot in the arm for a program that struggled in the secondary all season. Tech finished No. 123 in the FBS in total defense and tied for No. 120 in scoring defense.
The program fired former defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter and brought in Wood from the University of Houston to shore up the unit.
Wisniewski will now be a part of that hopefully improved unit in 2025.
