Urban Meyer Flips His Prediction for Miami-Florida Winner

Former three-time national championship-winning coach Urban Meyer was driving the Miami Hurricanes bandwagon heading into the weekend, but something made him reconsider his stance on their matchup against the Florida Gators on Saturday.

After initially picking the Hurricanes to win the Week 1 matchup, Meyer switched courses when he gave his final predication on Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff” on Saturday morning.

“This is inflection-point time because the loser of this game, this season can get away from them real fast, especially the Gators,” Meyer said. “How about the Florida Gators could possibly be underdogs in eight games? Billy Napier has lost 10 of 13 Power Five (games).

“But on the other side, you got Mario Cristobal. They’re struggling too. He’s only 12-13. Early in the week I picked Miami, but the more I think about it, everyone in Gainesville, and I’ve been there — I’m going Gators.”

The Miami-Florida rivalry has been pretty lopsided in recent years. Though the Gators have won two of the last three meetings, the Hurricanes have won seven of the last nine.

With just one winning season between them since 2022, both Napier and Cristobal, who have a combined 23-27 record over the last two seasons, are under immense pressure to win in their third years.
