Neal Brown isn't going anywhere...
The West Virginia coach is reportedly expected to stay as such for the 2023 season. The school has not yet made a formal announcement.
After firing former athletic director Shane Lyons on Nov. 14, West Virginia president Gordon Gee announced earlier this month that a new athletic director would evaluate Brown and decide on his future. The school is in the process of finalizing a deal with North Texas' athletic director Wren Baker for the vacant position.
Brown is two years into a contract that runs through 2026 and comes with a buyout that is currently $16 million.
With the coaching hiring cycle well underway and the transfer portal opening next week, it's expected for Baker to take a year to evaluate the head coach.
Brown is 22–25 with the Mountaineers. In four years, Brown's only winning season came in 2020 (6–4). In 2022, despite adding former USC and Georgia quarterback JT Daniels, the Mountaineers fell flat, going 5-7.
