College football has its share of great coaches. One of the best coaches in the game is Wisconsin's Paul Chryst.
In Athlon Sports' Top 130 Coach Rankings, the Badgers' head coach is listed at No. 25. He appears just behind Duke's David Cutcliffe (No. 24) and just ahead of Dino Babers at Syracuse (No. 26).
Here's why: Chryst's ranking among Big Ten coaches (at No. 8 among the conference) likely came as a surprise to some, but that's largely an indication of how deep that conference is in terms of coaching talent. On the national level, it's clear Chryst is one of the nation's top 25 coaches. The former Wisconsin quarterback worked as an assistant in Madison from 2005-11 before becoming the head coach at Pitt in 2012. He went 19-19 through three years (2012-14) with the Panthers and was hired as Wisconsin’s head coach prior to the ’15 campaign. Chryst led the team to 10 wins in his first year, followed by a 24-4 mark over the next two seasons. The Badgers slipped to 8-5 last fall, but this program is still 42-12 with two Big Ten West Division titles under his watch.
