Alabama Lands Starting OL and Michigan State Transfer Geno VanDeMark
Alabama has been on an absolute roll in the transfer portal this week.
Just days after landing a couple of starting-caliber defensive backs, Kalen DeBoer and company went out and added an experienced lineman to the room. On Saturday it was confirmed that Michigan State guard Geno VanDeMark would be transferring to Alabama despite Oklahoma being viewed as the favorite.
He made eight starts at right guard in the last two seasons for the Spartans. The former three-star recruit out of New Jersey didn’t play during his true freshman season in 2021. He did make two starts in 10 games the next season, six starts in eight games this year but was forced to miss four games due to an injury.
In terms of Alabama's transfer class, VanDeMark brings the tally up to 15. The class ranks as the No. 3 transfer portal class in the country, while the combined ranking of the recruiting class and portal class ranks as the No. 2 in the country.
While many think there may be a drop-off without Saban, clearly DeBoer and the staff are hitting the ground running in the first offseason in Tuscaloosa.
