On Saturday night, the Wisconsin football program came up one score shy of knocking off the top-ranked team in the country. The Oregon Ducks (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten) kept the Badgers out of the endzone in the second half. UW fell by a score of 16-13, to 3-4 in the Big Ten, and remains one win away from bowl eligibility at 5-5 overall.
Beyond the scope of the 2024 college football season, Wisconsin also fell to 0-6 against top-25-ranked opponents during head coach Luke Fickell’s tenure. The second-year Badgers head coach once again lamented his team’s inability to “find ways to finish.”
Former Badgers Football Players Speak Out After Loss to Oregon
After another disappointing loss, former Wisconsin football players voiced their frustrations with the state of the Badgers.
Former Badgers and current Seattle Seahawks cornerback Faion Hicks started gameday with positive feelings that spilled over from the night before. The Wisconsin basketball team knocked off the #9 Arizona Wildcats in a 103-88 upset victory while honoring former head coach Bo Ryan and celebrating the 10th anniversary of UW’s back-to-back Final Four teams.

As the morning excitement waned and the day turned to night, Wisconsin quarterback Braedyn Locke and the offense needed to drive for a field goal to force overtime or, better yet for Badgers fans, a late touchdown to take the lead. Former UW running back Anthony Davis tried his best to be optimistic.
That optimism was dashed, however, merely four minutes later with a game-sealing interception.
Fellow tailback Melvin Gordon tweeted his thoughts on the offense’s struggles.
Former Wisconsin football kicker Vitaly Pisetsky used a play on words, describing the Badgers as “UnLockeY.” The morning after the game, he took a more somber approach.

Pisetsky said that, despite Wisconsin leading by a touchdown at the end of the third quarter, “at no point during last night’s game” did he feel UW would come out on top. “You can’t win much with this QB running this offense,” he said.
If “there’s just no way [Locke] is capable of being the type of QB that is needed,” and Wisconsin needs another win to extend the third-longest active bowl streak in the country, only one question remains:
