Jackson Arnold’s road to the Heisman Trophy starts now
Jackson Arnold is ready to take over the full-time reins as quarterback of the Oklahoma Sooners. After an impressive bowl performance, the expectations are high but he's keeping it all in perspective.
How far OU goes this year will depend heavily on the performance of Arnold against SEC defenses. But, he won’t have to do it alone. The Sooners have a loaded wide receiver room and many NFL prospects on defense.
Here’s Jackson’s thoughts ahead of the opener against Temple.
On his level of excitement for tonight’s game
“Coach V always says the next game is the most important game for us. That’s how we’re treating it. We’re all super amped up and so excited to play.”
How far do you feel you’ve come since the start of camp?
“A lot. There’s been a lot maturing, becoming a leader. Getting really close to this group and creating more chemistry with this group. I feel like overall through camp we built a lot of chemistry, a lot of leadership and camaraderie. I feel like we’re in a good spot right now.”
On dealing with the pressures of being the starter this early in his career
“There’s always going to be pressure being a quarterback at any Division One school, more so here with all of the past Heisman winners and success we’ve had in this position. I try to stay off social media. That’s really the cause of a lot of negativity and pressure. But I’m just focusing on my job and focusing on what’s in this facility not what’s said outside the facility. And just focusing getting better with your guys day in and day out and just winning the day.”
