Former Utah Star Tyler Huntley Released by the Cleveland Browns

After signing with the Cleveland Browns back in March, Huntley is back on the market as he found himself to be the odd man out in the Browns' stacked QB room.

The Cleveland Browns have officially released former Utah Utes and Baltimore Ravens QB Tyler Huntley as a part of the team's effort to slim down the roster to 53 players.

Huntley signed a one-year veteran minimum contract with the Browns on March 17th making him the fourth quarterback on the roster heading into the preseason. The move came as a relative shock to most as he not only signed with a bitter rival to his former team, the Baltimore Ravens, but he also joined the Browns a week after the organization signed presumptive backup to Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston.

Huntley spent four years in Baltimore, establishing himself as one of the premier backup QBs in the NFL, even earning himself a rather surprising Pro Bowl nod in 2023.

Throughout his career, the former Utah star racked up 1,957 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 20 games played. He also racked up 503 rushing yards and three touchdowns during that time.

During the preseason, the 6'1", 205-pound field general tallied 322 passing yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions with the Browns. However, with Winston clearly the choice for QB2 and Dorian Thompson-Robinson in the midst of an impressive resurgence, Huntley was the odd man out in the room despite his solid preseason displays.

While the Browns expected to trade Huntley, there were no viable suitors, and as a result, the front office decided to release him. The Ravens are expected to be suitors for the backup, and other teams will most likely follow suit in an attempt to sign the Utah Man before the season kicks off.
