Tigers downed by Blue Hose

The Clemson Tigers' struggles continued Tuesday night, as they lost to the Presbyterian Blue Hose by a final score of 8-7 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

CLEMSON-- The Clemson Tigers' struggles continued Tuesday night, as they lost to the Presbyterian Blue Hose by a final score of 8-7 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

 The Blue Hose jumped on top of the Tigers in the top of the first inning, as they plated two runs on three hits.'

The Tigers tied the game up in the bottom half of the second inning. After a walk to Michael Green, Bryce Teodosio's two-run home run--his ninth of the season--tied the game 2-2.

However, the Blue Hose answered in the top of the third inning. Following three walks by starting Tiger pitcher Brooks Crawford, it was a one out single by Johnny Cook that pushed the Blue Hose lead to 4-2.

The Tigers continued to claw their way back, as Grayson Byrd homered to right field and cut the Blue Hose lead to 4-3.

The Tigers long-ball barrage kept coming in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jordan Greene and Justin Hawkins went hit back-to-back solo home runs that gave the Tigers a 5-4 lead before an RBI fly out by Sam Hall extended the lead to 6-4.

The Blue Hose plated a single run in the top of the sixth inning before a three-run seventh inning gave the Blue Hose an 8-6 lead.

The Tigers got within one run in the bottom of the seventh, as Hall doubled, advanced on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly from Logan Davidson to cut the Blue Hose lead to 8-7.

Clark Dearman (3-3) earned the win by allowing just one run on four hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Cook pitched the final 1.2 innings to record his second save of the season. Luke Sommerfeld (0-2) suffered the loss.

Tiger Tracks:

• Clemson, who has an 18-10 home record, split a home-and-home weekend series with Gardner-Webb last weekend.

• The Tigers are averaging 6.6 runs per game and hitting .265 with a .366 on-base percentage and 82 steals.

• The Tigers had four members of the team named to the NCBWA First Balloting for All-American honors. The four members are relief pitcher Carson Spiers, utility player Davis Sharpe, starting pitcher Mat Clark and shortstop Logan Davidson.
