Big 12 Makes Major Travis Hunter Announcement Amid Heisman Campaign

The Colorado Buffaloes finished the 2024 college football season as the No. 4 team in the Big 12 with a 9-3 record, going 7-2 in conference games.

In Deion Sanders' second year with the program, the Buffaloes were fighting for a spot in the College Football Playoff and Big 12 title game.

They were extremely impressive given the turnaround from Sanders' 4-8 finish in 2023 season, and much of that success came from Heisman Trophy candidate Travis Hunter

Following a Heisman-level year for Hunter, the conference announced on Thursday that the two-way star was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

While many viewed Hunter as a playmaking receiver, he also served as the Buffaloes' No. 1 cornerback.

On defense, Hunter produced one forced fumble, four interceptions, 11 pass deflections and 31 tackles.

According to PFF and Kenny Lee at Sports Illustrated, he finished the year with a 87.7 coverage grade, which ranks at No. 6 in the nation among Power Four cornerbacks with 300-plus snaps.

Hunter was also a superstar on the offensive end, finishing the season with 14 touchdowns and 1,152 yards on 92 receptions.

Following the end of the 2024 regular season, Hunter was listed as the betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy (-800), per ESPN BET
