Nick Saban Reveals Why Colorado Is A Team To Watch In The Big 12 Title Race
As several college football analysts predicted ahead of the 2024 season, the Big 12 is as wide open as it gets. The Iowa State Cyclones and the BYU Cougars entered Saturday tied at the top with 4-0 conference records, but four other programs are 3-1 and waiting for them to slip up.
One of them is the Colorado Buffaloes, a team "College GameDay" host Nick Saban says he has his eye on.
"I think the team to watch out for is Colorado,” Saban said Saturday. "One of the things that Deion told me this summer was he finally had two coordinators that believe like he believes.”
It helps when both coordinators have someone like Heisman hopeful Travis Hunter playing on both sides of the ball. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur has the Buffaloes' offense sitting as the 63rd-best in the country while defensive coordinator Robert Livingston has Colorado's defense ranked 72nd.
The Buffaloes will need some help from their other conference opponents to knock off the Cyclones and Cougars as the Buffaloes don't play either during the regular season. They'll focus on staying in the race with a matchup against the Cincinnati Bearcats that kicks off on Saturday at 10:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.
