Shedeur Sanders Throw Leads to Catch of the Year Candidate in Colorado-UCF

The Colorado Buffaloes came into Saturday's game against the UCF Knights as double-digit underdogs and looking to make a statement.

A pick by Shedeur Sanders on Colorado's first drive signaled yet another slow start for Colorado, but the Buffs quickly turned things around.

Sanders connected with two-way star Travis Hunter for a 23-yard touchdown to jump out to an early 7-0 lead after UCF threw a pick of their own. A lead that didn't last long, as the Knights scored on the first play of the ensuing drive to tie it up. While the connection between Sanders and Hunter led to points on the board, college football fans likely have already forgotten about the play.

After the Knights' touchdown, Colorado got the ball back and answered with a score of its own. This time, it was Sanders finding Vanderbilt transfer Will Sheppard for a diving catch on a 47-yard touchdown. A play that has sent social media into a frenzy.

"My goodness what a throw and catch," wrote one fan.

"That was an amazing play," added another.

"Insane catch," chimed in another.

For Sheppard, this touchdown catch has to feel twice as good as any other in his career. Not only was it his first as a Buff, but it also more than makes up for the Hail Mary attempt that he dropped against Baylor in Colorado's Week 4 win. Luckily for Sheppard and the Buffs, Sanders found LaJohntay Wester the following play on a Hail Mary touchdown that sent the game to overtime and led to Colorado's eventual win.

Through Colorado's first few possessions, Sheppard is leading the team in receiving yards with 67 yards on three catches.
