Georgia Fans in Disbelief Over Bulldogs' Disappointment in Rivalry Game
With a spot in the SEC Championship Game already secured, No. 7 Georgia welcomed unranked Georgia Tech to Sanford Stadium for a Black Friday edition of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.
Kirby Smart's Bulldogs (9-2) entered the game as 17.5-point favorites, per ESPN BET. Georgia Tech (7-4), led by second-year head coach Brent Key, had lost six straight in the series.
Unfortunately for Georgia fans, the Dawgs were extremely sluggish in the first half. Star quarterback Carson Beck and the UGA offense were held scoreless with just 137 total yards and lost a fumble.
It is the first time Georgia has been held to zero points through the first two quarters since 2019 against Kentucky.
On the other side, Georgia Tech's offense seemingly had plenty of room to work. Senior quarterback Haynes King helped engineer three scoring drives with 307 total yards of offense.
And despite missing one field goal, the Yellow Jackets took a 17-0 lead to the locker room in Athens. According to ESPN, this is the first time UGA has allowed at least 100 yards passing and 100 yards rushing in a first half since 2014 against Clemson.
As expected, Bulldogs fans did not take the first-half woes of Georgia lightly. Much of the blame fell on offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.
"Mike Bobo so trash," one fan wrote. "Why did we bring him back ???? All out blitz and were running the longest routes ever."
"Get Mike Bobo off the team dude I’m so serious," another responded.
This isn't the first time the Bulldogs have sleep-walked in the first half. UGA faced similar situations for the majority of the season. While Smart and company have usually found their footing in the second half, Georgia fans were shocked nonetheless.
"We are half asleep," one wrote. "Please wake up."
"How does UGA suck so bad at times?," a fan added.
"Outcoached, outplayed. Embarrassing," another responded.
Fortunately for Georgia faithful, the game is far from over. The Bulldogs need more second-half heroics to escape the first loss in Athens in 30 games.
