Texas Named the 'Smart Money' Pick for Former Florida State Commit Javion Hilson

The Texas Longhorns are looking to stay hot on the recruitng trail and secure yet another top-five or even top-three class in 2025.

The class got a boost on Thursday when four-star wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon announced that he'd be flipping his commitment from Florida State, and On3's recruitng insider Chad Simmons also provided some positive news regarding four-star EDGE Javion Hilson.

The one-time Alabama and Florida State commit backed off his pledge to the Seminoles just a couple of days ago, and now Simmons has his eyes on the Longhorns.

"This kids full of surprises," Simmons told Josh Newberg. "I watched him in the state championship game last year in December had the Gator gear on. Next thing you know at midnight, he's committing to Alabama. And the he comes out of nowhere and decommits and just pretty quickly after commits to Florida State. Obvious then changes his mind there and decommits. He's been to Florida State been to Florida this year already as well.

"There was some buzz about Texas going back to the summer," Simmons said. "I think that's kind of again the smart money pick is the Texas Longhorns. He's supposed to be back, maybe for the Georgia game..."

Through six games for Cocoa High School (FL), Hilson has racked up five sacks, 17 hurries, 38 total tackles and 9.5 tackles for a loss.

The Longhorns are looking to continue to bolster their pass rush, and while Hilson is a bit of a wild card whose recruitment doesn't appear it will be over until pen is put to paper, he could be just the recruit they are lookig for.
