Gamecocks blow 17 point lead in loss to LSU

South Carolina loses a heartbreaker at home to the Tigers

It was a difficult postgame press conference for South Carolina’s Shane Beamer. The head coach maintained a professional demeanor throughout but clearly would have liked to have been anywhere else.

Here are some excerpts from his media availability.

Intro

Shane: First of all, congratulations to Coach Kelly. I mean, what a football game. We told our players before the game it was going to be an SEC heavyweight fight, and it was going to come down to the fourth quarter and it absolutely did. I certainly want to thank our fans…What a day in Columbia, it was awesome…It gave me chills watching the crowd at Game Day and seeing the energy they brought…I want to apologize to our fans. 13 penalties. You’re not going to win football games in the SEC with 13 penalties.

What’s your message to the team after a heartbreaking loss?

Shane: I told them that I’m proud as heck of them. They just keep coming. We put our defense in some tough situations today and our offense got put in some tough situations obviously with some injuries…I just told them that obviously in this league it’s a thin line between winning and losing and when you have 13 penalties, more often than not, you’re going to be on the wrong side of that. But I also told them that I thought we got better this week…just told them that we’ve gotta go right back to work and that I’m gonna do a better job for them.

On the injury status of quarterback LaNorris Sellers

Shane: He’s got a little bit of an ankle sprain. I think he’s gonna be fine.
