Answering Your Michigan State Basketball Questions and Emails...

Hondo, how does it look for Izzo getting Parker? Bruce Palmer

Tom has done an amazing job working for this recruit. I am not reporting this as fact, but in my opinion Izzo is on the outside looking in. I don’t think he comes to MSU, but let’s hope I am wrong.

Hondo, can we hope that the Nix/Payne combo is done. I love Tom, but give us a break. Brad in Saginaw

Agree. Don’t like it.

Hondo, do you think Dawson and Harris could be gone this year? That would be devastating to the program. Michael

Sure they could. Both have areas they can improve, but both are legit stars who have a future in the league.

Hondo, you said that you thought the Spartans would win 24 games. Still stand by that? Melody

Hi Melody. I never back off. I give my preseason prediction and I can’t go back and pretend it doesn’t exist. I know this. There is a ton of talent on this team. I also know that if this group can come together they can be pretty amazing. Some big “Ifs” but we shall see.

Hondo, I work with a Wolverine and after years of acting like basketball doesn’t matter; now she acts like they are great. How good are they before I make a bet? Kristen

Very good. Super athletes, a great coach, and they are the real deal. Unlike the past where the game was they shoot threes and if they are going in they win, this year they have added some inside things and they are playing much improved D.

Hondo, I loved it when Ed Hightower was on the radio show a few times. Any chance he comes back? Martin in Bay City

For sure. I love Ed and he is always great on the radio show.

Hondo on your radio show the other day you mentioned that you had a great Rick Majerus story. Maybe I missed it. Could you pass it on? I really liked him. Seth

No problem Seth. He was here at the Breslin and he came up and asked me if we could talk. So we went off to the side and he said, “You are a big guy. Where is a good place to eat after the game?” I suggested a few places and last year at the NCAA tournament when MSU was playing his St Louis team he called me over at his practice. He told me, “That was some great eats man. Thanks. He then recommended a place for me to eat there in town.” I really liked Rick and will miss him.

Hondo, I was reading on Twitter and someone asked you about Izzo always having refs that seem to have it out for him. Could you please talk more about your answer? Bruce

Sure. Tom has a very good relationship with the older refs like the previously mentioned Hightower. There is a CFB ref who has helped us many times here at Spartan Nation. He and I were having breakfast once and we talked about officiating and coaches. He mentioned to me that he had a close friend who reffed basketball. He said, “He told me Izzo whines about everything so you just have to tune him out.” I wouldn’t use the word whine, but I would say that younger refs do have a short fuse and Izzo works them as hard as his players.
