CAN'T KICK THE HABIT
Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars and whatever you do, do not shake
the hand of the opposing coach after they knock you out in the once in four
year World Cup Soccer Tournament. After all it's the American way right?
Loose the big game the one that matters most and make excuses, blame the
refs, do whatever it takes not to except responsibility. If you don't know
what I'm talking about here's a little re-cap...
The U.S. men's soccer team needed a win against Ghana, that's another
Country, to advance to the second round of the World Cup. After tying the
game at one a piece the U.S. was doing all it could to take that score into
the half but according to the coach of U.S. team the refs had other plans...
In the tournament the clock doesn't stop for injuries, the time is just
tacked on the end of the half, so it's hard to gauge just how much time is
really left in a half. Anyway, during this "injury time" a penalty was
called against the Americans resulting in a penalty shot. Long story short
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL and because of that event the U.S. will be
watching the rest of the tournament while eating hot dogs and apple pie from
home sweet home.
Then, after the game, the coach of the U.S. team neglected to shake the
opposing team's head coach and instead left the field in a tirade and
proceeded to make the aforementioned excuses to the media. Mind you, the
opposing team declared the day a national holiday in Ghana and people only
had to work a half day so they could watch the match, that just illustrates
what this game means to the rest of the world and illustrates the lack of
class this country's representative (the coach) doesn't have. t
Back to the bigger picture four more years, all the hype and once again out
in the first round. This sport is huge everywhere else and still we
Americans are lagging behind and it doesn't have to be this way, Team USA
didn't loose because of a penalty kick they lost because they couldn't put
enough shots on goal. Granted there have been way to many yellow cards and
penalties in general but make the adjustments, they had a defensive strategy
that didn't work make a change and by the way defense might win
championships, but offense gets you past the first round.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. Now the real sport can be played, teams that
deserve to be there are, teams that leave everything on the line can battle
it out for the rest of the Tournament, we've reached the one and done stage
and things are getting heated. So if you are a fan of finesse play,
precision passing, strategic maneuverings and the ultimate athletes or
basically everything Hondo isn't then by all means tune in. I know I will,
I finally have cable.
