Michigan Dealt Unfortunate Transfer Portal News on Friday

The Michigan Wolverines entered the 2024 college football season with high hopes, fresh off a national championship.

While emotions ran high in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the first year under head coach Sherrone Moore wasn't necessarily a success.

Michigan finished the season with a 7-5 record, with a 5-4 mark in the Big Ten. While they suffered a couple of brutal losses in conference play, they ended the year with back-to-back victories over Northwestern and rival Ohio State

One of the most prominent players of the 2024 campaign made a decision about his future with the program after the regular season.

Quarterback Alex Orji announced his intention to enter the transfer portal after two years at Michigan.

Orji originally committed to the Wolverines in 2022. He was ranked as a three-star prospect, listed as the No. 30 quarterback and No. 493 overall player in the nation, per 247Sports.

The Texas native previously received offers from Baylor, Houston, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt and more.

He is now transferring from the program with two years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-3 quarterback also tallied one touchdown and 383 yards on the ground.

While Orji searches for a new home, the Wolverines will be preparing for the ReliaQuest Bowl against the Alabama Crimson Tide

They'll go head-to-head against the powerhouse SEC program on Dec. 31 at noon ET. Alabama enters the game as a 10-point favorite, per ESPN BET
