Big Ten Makes Major Jeremiah Smith Announcement After Ohio State’s Upset Loss
The 2024 college football regular season is officially over after a wild Week 14. The remaining games are conference championship matchups as we await the final verdict on the first-ever expanded College Football Playoff field.
Perhaps the biggest result in Week 14 was Ohio State's stunning upset loss to Michigan in Columbus.
As a result, Ohio State will not be playing in the Big Ten title game. Instead, Oregon will face off against Penn State on Saturday.
But it's not all bad news for the Buckeyes.
On Tuesday, the Big Ten Conference made a major announcement regarding Ohio State star freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, naming him the 2024 Richter-Howard Receiver of the Year as well as the Thompson-Randle El Freshman of the Year.
It's a pair of huge honors for Smith, who broke onto the scene as a freshman and became a top option for quarterback Will Howard.
Smith led Ohio State in receiving yards (974) and touchdowns (10) while being second on the team in receptions (57).
Despite the presence of NFL prospect Emeka Egbuka, it was Smith who was the main option in the passing game for the Buckeyes.
Smith was a five-star recruit in high school and the top receiver in his class, and he looked the part in his freshman year with the Buckeyes.
Now, he gets a big honor as Ohio State is likely headed for a College Football Playoff berth.
