Fans Express Outrage Over Ohio State In Updated College Football Playoff Ranking
The College Football Playoff rankings were updated on Tuesday night after Saturday's slate.
The biggest ranked upset of the weekend was the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes losing 13-10 to unranked Michigan as a 20.5-point favorite on ESPN BET. After going into halftime 10-10, Ohio State was held scoreless in the second half. Michigan took the lead late in the fourth quarter with a field goal with 45 seconds left.
The Wolverines then stopped Ohio State on four downs to secure their fourth straight win over the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes learned their fate on Tuesday when the rankings show dropped. Ohio State came in at No. 6 in the updated rankings after losing its second game of the season.
Multiple college football fans expressed frustration with the updated rankings on social media.
Miami fell further than Ohio State after losing to three-loss Syracuse 42-38 on Saturday, which The Athletic's Stewart Mandel pointed out. The Hurricanes fell to No. 12 after being No. 6 before the loss.
"Note that Miami dropped farther for losing on the road to an 8-3 team than Ohio State did for losing at home to a 6-5 team (and scoring 10 points)." Mandel said.
Others just mocked the rankings and Ohio State in general.
"Mickey Mouse team," one fan said. "Mickey Mouse coach."
Another fan was confused about why Ohio State was not punished more for losing to Michigan.
"Don't really have an opinion on how the CFP committee has handled the SEC teams, but it's been interesting to see that both Penn State & Ohio State didn't get punished too badly in the rankings after losses," they said.
Others just laughed at the ranking Ohio State received.
"Ohio State at 6." they mockingly laughed.
An Indiana fan weighed in after the Hoosiers fell five spots after losing to Ohio State in Columbus.
"They dropped Indiana more spots for losing to Ohio State than they dropped Ohio State for losing to Michigan," they said. "Tell me there is no brand bias... what a joke."
A Michigan fan argued that the playoff committee was biased after their decision.
"Wow, you are so biased," they said. "They lost to a depleted Michigan team."
Another fan was impressed that Ohio State was ranked as high as it was.
"They shouldn’t be this high," they said.
A Tennessee fan believed Ohio State should not have been ranked.
"Shouldn't even be ranked." the fan said.
