Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith Was The Talk Of College Football On Wednesday

Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith just wrapped up a standout freshman regular season, showing why he’s one of the most exciting young talents in all of college football. From highlight-reel one-handed catches to leading the team in receiving yards, Smith has proven he’s the real deal.

A big reason Smith chose to leave his home state of Florida and head to Columbus was the chance to work with Ohio State co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Brian Hartline.

Hartline’s reputation speaks for itself, having developed NFL stars like Marvin Harrison Jr., Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Garrett Wilson, Terry McLaurin, and Chris Olave.

On Wednesday, Chris Anderson of 247Sports reported that Hartline has interviewed for West Virginia’s head coaching vacancy.

"Multiple sources tell EerSportsDot.com that Ohio State offensive coordinator/receivers coach Brian Hartline was interviewed for the Head Coach vacancy at West Virginia," Anderson wrote.

The news immediately sparked speculation among fans, with many suggesting that if Hartline agreed to a deal with West Virginia, Smith might leave Ohio State and enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.

"Get ready to learn transfer portal, Jeremiah Smith," one fan said.

"Say goodbye to Jeremiah Smith," another wrote.

"Jeremiah smith going with him? 👀," added a fan.

"Jeremiah to the portal perhaps?" one wrote.

"Jeremiah Smith," said another. "PORTAL."

"He goes and Jeremiah Smith is gone," wrote a fan.

Smith, a former five-star recruit and the top-ranked player in the 2024 class, had narrowed his college choices to Ohio State, Florida, and Miami before committing to the Buckeyes last December.

If the 6-foot-3, 215-pound wideout decides to transfer, Florida and Miami are likely frontrunners—unless, of course, he chooses to follow Hartline to West Virginia.

Through 12 games in 2024, Smith has recorded 57 receptions for 934 yards and 10 touchdowns.
