Ohio State Legend Thinks Ryan Day Should Be Fired Unless 1 Condition is Met
The Ohio State Buckeyes were shockingly upset by the Michigan Wolverines in the 2024 edition of "The Game," with the final score settling in at 13-10. After the loss, all eyes turned to Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, and Buckeyes legend Cris Carter believes it may be time for the school to move on from him.
For much of the year, Ohio State has been the No. 2 team in the nation behind Oregon, and they had a great shot to not only solidify that ranking, but also clinch a spot in the Big Ten championship game if they could have beaten Michigan. Instead, Day's penchant for not being able to win big games reared its ugly head again.
As a result, calls for Day to be fired have mounted, even with the school publicly announcing that they will be standing by him for the time being. Carter doesn't necessarily agree with that move, as he believes that Day should be fired unless he leads the team to a National Championship this year.
"If you look at the quarterbacks that he's had, if you look at the offensive productivity he's had, and lack of mental to win the big one but one time and no National Championship Game, yes, your job will be in jeopardy at Ohio State just like his is," Carter said on "The Stephen A. Smith Show."
Expectations at Ohio State are high every year, and while the team has been good under Day's lead, they have virtually nothing to show for it. The only thing left that he can do to save himself in Carter's eyes would be win the National Championship this year, and even then, that seems less likely to happen after their loss to Michigan.
While the Buckeyes figure to still qualify for the 2024 College Football Playoff, there's no doubt they will fall down the standings, which will make their path to winning it all even more difficult. It may be a tall task, but if Day can't pull it off, Carter thinks it would be time for Ohio State to find a new head coach.
