Paul Finebaum Offers Devastating Reality on Ryan Day's Job Security
No one in the great state of Ohio needs to be reminded of what, exactly, happened to in Columbus on Saturday, with the beloved Buckeyes falling to unranked Michigan in what is likely the most heated rivalry in college football history. It was an ugly game, as OSU was limited to just 10 points at home and fell to Michigan, 13-10.
The loss dropped Ohio State to 10-2, and bumped them to No. 6 in the College Football Playoff rankings, which were released on Tuesday.
It also marks the fourth straight loss to the Wolverines for head coach Ryan Day, whose team has gone 66-10 under his watch in the past seven years, but whose repeated failures against Michigan have put his job in jeopardy.
Day and the Buckeyes could still win a national championship, of course. But short of that, according to ESPN college football guru Paul Finebaum, expect Day to be fired after the season.
Ohio State has come out in support of Day, but that, of course, could change.
Speaking on ESPN's "First Take" on Wednesday, Finebaum said, "It's hard to explain to people who don't live in that rivalry but it is that important. Ryan Day has said it. He talked about a recent death and said it is similar to a family member, similar to losing to Michigan. I don't think he has anywhere to go.
"He has zero good will in Columbus, Ohio, right now. A national championship will get a lot back but short of that, I think he's history."
Ohio State won't play in the Big Ten championship, which will come down to Penn State and Oregon in Indianapolis on Saturday.
