Ryan Day Assigns Blame After Ohio State’s Loss to Michigan

Week 14 of the college football season was full of rivalry matchups. Perhaps the biggest one was Ohio State facing Michigan in The Game.

Ohio State just needed a win to clinch a spot in the Big Ten Conference title game, but Michigan walked away with a surprising 13-10 upset.

It was Ohio State's fourth straight loss to Michigan, and tensions flared up after the game as Michigan players planted their flag in the middle of the field.

Ohio State's performance was disappointing, and fans called for Day to be fired after the loss. On Wednesday, Day spoke to reports about the game, and he took all the blame for how things went down.

“I’m responsible,” Day said, per Stefan Krajisnik of cleveland.com ($). “I’m the head coach. That’s where the buck stops.”

Day kept blaming himself for the loss: “It’s the coaches’ job to put the guys in the best position to be successful.”

Ohio State entered The Game averaging 37.8 points and had scored at least 20 in all 11 games. But the Buckeyes managed just one touchdown against the Wolverines, a 10-yard scoring pass from Will Howard to Jeremiah Smith just before halftime.

Besides that, the offense stalled time and time again. The star running back duo of Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson combined for just 67 yards on 22 carries.

The Buckeyes threw for just 175 yards against Michigan, the lowest mark of the season, and Smith, the star wide receiver, had less than 40 yards for the second straight game.

This was one week after Ohio State put up 38 points in a top-five showdown against then-undefeated Indiana. But the Michigan defense frustrated Ohio State all day long.

Instead of preparing for the Big Ten title game, Ohio State is sitting at home thinking about what could've been, waiting to find out its first-round matchup in the College Football Playoff.
