Recruiting Expert Says Texas A&M Aggies Could Be Leading Ahead of Elite Safety's Commitment
The Texas A&M Aggies have had a ton of overall success already in the class of 2025, but the defensive backs have been the strongest unit in the class so far.
Mike Elko and his staff are pushing hard to add another elite prospect in the back end, this time via Cleveland, Ohio's Trey McNutt. Initially, McNutt was supposed to commit two weeks ago, but he elected to push back his date to August 3 and take one more in-person visit to College Station.
Mark Passwaters of Rivals and AggieYell says that Texas A&M has positioned itself nicely as McNutt's commitment date draws closer and closer coming off his final visit.
“The Aggies have put in quite an effort to sway McNutt over the past month and certainly seem to have the momentum in his recruitment” Passwaters wrote. ”McNutt’s decision to delay his commitment until next week sure seemed to favor the Aggies, as does the prospect of his family moving to the Houston area. Add in another visit this week and it’s not hard to see why the Aggies would feel good about this one.”
247's composite ratings have McNutt as the No. 19 overall player in the class as well as the No. 1 safety and the No. 2 player in the state of Ohio.
McNutt spoke last week to On3's Steve Wiltfong on why he wanted to take another look at Texas A&M.
"Their staff with A&M is elite on the safety side and they produced a lot of safeties,” McNutt said. “Coach Ish and Coach Elko and Coach [Jay] Bateman and the staff are great. Coach Elko’s defensive mind is elite. I just like Coach [Ishmael Aristide] and his personality and everything."
