Texas Loses Fourth DL to the Transfer Portal Before the College Football Playoff
Redshirt freshman defensive lineman Sydir Mitchell plans to enter the transfer portal, per Hayes Fawcett, joining seven other Longhorn players, headlined by former five-star Johntay Cook II and former four-star Tiaoalii Savea.
Mitchell joins a long list of FBS players who have entered the portal since Dec. 9th. On Monday, nearly 750 FBS scholarship players chose to find a new home for next season. Mitchell has totaled seven tackles across two seasons for the Longhorns. Three came from 2023, all being solo, and four coming from this year's campaign.
Mitchell most recently appeared in the Kentucky game back on Nov. 23. In the showing, the Oradell, New Jersey product recorded just one assisted tackle.
Mitchell was ranked a three-star player on 247sports. The fifth-best player in the state of New Jersey, the 6-foot-6 lineman was also the 51st-best player at his position. Mitchell was also recruited by Miami, Texas A&M, Georgia, and Arizona State back when he was in high school.
Mitchell and the seven other Longhorn players in the portal will not play in the college football playoffs, where Texas is set to take on Clemson in the first round on Dec. 20 in Darrell K. Royal Stadium.
