Texas Tech Baseball Hopes to Prove D1Baseball Poll Wrong
After a disappointing 2024, the Texas Tech Red Raiders baseball team will embark on a season full of uncertainty about their pitching rotation and a tough road start in February.
Hopeful for an early-season ranking, when the D1Baseball rankings came out on Monday, the Red Raiders were absent.
The Texas A&M Aggies, who finished as runners-up last season to Tennessee in the College World Series, take the top spot early. The Volunteers fell to No. 4.
Oklahoma State (17), Arizona (21) and TCU (23) are the only Big 12 schools to appear in the rankings. At some point this season, the Red Raiders hope to change that.
Texas Tech finished its 2024 campaign 33-26 overall and 12-17 in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders posted a 2-2 in the Big 12 Baseball championship tournament in Arlington in May.
The 2025 season comes with challenges as the team will face the No. 5 North Carolina Tar Heels on the road in February. Back home, the team will get a much-needed stretch facing the UC-Irvine Anteaters in a possible regrouping opportunity.
The Big 12 could be for the taking. The exit of traditional powerhouse teams Texas and Oklahoma could catapult the Red Raiders to the top of the conference.
Texas Tech's last appearance in the College World Series was in 2019 as they captured the Big 12 championship. The Red Raiders also won the conference in 2016 and 2017 claiming three titles in four years.
Getting off to a solid start could set the tone for the year. If the Red Raiders could manage a 3-3 record in February this could end the five-year drought of a conference title.
