Tom Lovat Pegged as the Worst Head Coach in Utah History

The Sporting News recently listed every Big 12 program's worst head coach, and Utah's Tom Lovat received the not-so-honorable honor.

The Sporting News recently released a list of the worst head coaches of all time for every Big 12 team, and Utah's pick goes way back to the 70's.

Kevin Sumlin (Arizona), Rudy Lavik (Arizona State), Kevin Steele (Baylor), Chick Atkinson (BYU), Tim Murphy (Cincinnati), Dan Hawkins (Colorado), Kim Helton (Houston), Gene Chizik (Iowa State), Stan Parrish (K-State), Phil Cutchin (OK-State), Jim Shofner (TCU), Kliff Kingsbury (Texas Tech), Lou Saban (UCF), Tom Lovat (Utah), Frank Cignetti Jr. (West Virginia), and a four-way tie between Turner Gill, Charlie Weis, David Beaty, Les Miles (Kansas) make up the list.

Lovat coached Utah from 1974-1976 during which he accomplished an overall record of 5-28 and went 1-10 in back-to-back seasons to start his tenure.

Despite an inevitable change of the guard in the near future, there will be a carry-over effect which means that another Tom Lovat situation seems unlikely.
