'Keep Working!' Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb No Contract Concerns
FRISCO - Since bursting onto the scene as the Cowboys' first-round draft pick in 2020, wideout CeeDee Lamb has been a force to be reckoned with in the NFL.
Welcome to the Dallas Cowboys Daily Blitz from CowboysSI.com and Fan Stream Sports.
Entering the league as the second option in the Dallas passing game, he became the No. 1 receiver after the trade of Amari Cooper to the Browns last offseason. And he hasn't disappointed.
Lamb now enters the fourth year of his five-year rookie deal, which features a fifth-year team option, but unlike some others in his situation, he's not worried at all about his contract status, and he's leaving that to his agent.
“I told him he has full range. I just want the best of the best as far as the best for me and make sure everything is right. And when it’s right, just come let me know something. Other than that, I’m just going to keep working, keep building this bond with my guys, and when the time comes in September, we’re trying to start it off right.”
If Dallas exercises that fifth-year option, Lamb will earn just short of $18 million, a huge raise above the $2.5 million base salary he's earning in 2023, and considerably closer to his team value.
Since entering the league in 2020, Lamb's production has increased consistently from year to year, culminating in 255 career receptions for 3,344 yards and 10 touchdowns through the air. He's also amassed 205 yards rushing on 29 carries.
As the best receiver on the team, the Cowboys would be wise to make the right decision in extending him before the end of 2023, to avoid any distractions such as what happened with quarterback Dak Prescott a few seasons ago.
The biggest question is: how much will the right decision cost?
