Miami at Cowboys inactives, starring Dolphins DE Taco Charlton and his 'Hot Boyz' hat
ARLINGTON - Taco Charlton is a co-creator of the Dallas Cowboys "Hot Boyz'' nickname, so little wonder why he's at AT&T Stadium today warming up while wearing a "Hot Boyz'' ballcap .. even though the rest of him is adorned with Miami Dolphins gear.
Taco this week told me that he wanted to leave the Cowboys in order to "get somewhere where at least I have an honest chance to get on the field.'' Miami is now that place, and Charlton is active for the Dolphins for today's noon start against the team that made him a 2017 first-round pick.
Owner Jerry Jones phrased Taco's failure in Dallas as Charlton having "wilted,'' a colorful way of saying it just didn't work.
Dallas cut Taco on Wednesday and he was claimed off waivers by the Dolphins, leaving arguably the best team in the NFL for its worst. In talking with Taco during this process, ""Free Me'' aside, it is clear to me he wishes the Cowboys well and wishes Cowboys Nation well, too.
But not today.
He'll have a chip on his shoulder, based on what he told me.
"My agent,'' Taco said "was told some of the coaches don't like my personality.''
Today, obviously, it'll be the job of Dallas O-linemen like Tyron Smith and La'el Collins to knock that chip loose. ... though as DeMarcus Lawrence told us, "If you understand what a Hot Boy is, it's day-in and day-out go out there and work your f’in ass off to be the best. We expect that from (Taco, now in Miami).’
In any event, the "honest chance'' begins today as Charlton's career begins anew, as he's active. Meanwhile, Dallas' inactive list: Tavon Austin, Michael Gallup, Luke Gifford, Brandon Knight, Tyrone Crawford, Antwaun Woods and Xavier Woods.
