With Kentucky set to play at Robert Morris on Tuesday in the opening round of the NIT, it means the Wildcats will not get the opportunity to defend their national championship. Kentucky becomes the fifth defending champion to not make the NCAA Tournament the year after winning it all since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985. The Wildcats join North Carolina (2010), Florida (2008), Kansas (1989) and Louisville (1987) in this distinction.
