Billboard Facing More Backlash After Taylor Swift Made History on Thursday
Taylor Swift made even more history on Thursday night. This is after the "Eras Tour" headliner collected 10 wins in the 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA). This brings up her total to 49, which is the most in BBMA history.
While Swift skipped the ceremonies at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada -- the 34-year-old was in Kansas City on Thursday where she spent time with young Cancer patients at Children's Mercy Hospital -- she was still able to address the BBMAs crowd during her record-breaking night.
Swift sent over a pre-recorded video wherein she thanked her supporters after bagging 10 more BBMAs, including Top Artist.
"This is like the nicest early birthday present you could’ve given me," Swift said in her message. "So, thank you very much. I love it. It's exactly what I wanted."
Swift also thanked Billboard for the honor, but her fans on X could not help but air their grievance about a recent controversial decision made by the renowned music and entertainment magazine.
Just recently, Billboard revealed their list of the greatest pop stars of the 21st century. More than a few Swifties were surprised (and displeased) to know that their idol had to settle for the No. 2 spot behind Beyonce.
Swift has some of the most passionate fans in the industry, and they made sure to let Billboard know how they felt about that decision.
On Thursday, the Swifties were back at it again. Despite Swift's dominance at the BBMAs, Billboard was still on the receiving end of some backlash because of their greatest pop stars ranking.
"Sooooo how is she not your greatest pop star of the century????" a comment on X read.
"and beyonce?" asked a fan.
"Firstly, none of us were surprised she’s THE TOP pop star of the century. Secondly, #BillboardIsOverParty" wrote another.

"Lmao she bothered to record a video for this flop show? This queen is TOO nice," remarked a user.
"so glad she didnt go, you dont deserve her," asserted another.
"If you hadn't let yourselves be bought, you would have a higher rating from Swifties," declared a supporter.
Swifties are not easy to forget, and Billboard is still feeling their full wrath here.
As Swift said in her message, this incredible achievement comes just in time for her birthday. She turns 35 on Friday, and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, reportedly has some big plans lined up.
According to a report, Kelce is very proud of what his girlfriend has achieved with her "Eras Tour," but he now wants her to take some time for herself after nearly two grueling years on the road.
At this point, it appears that the Chiefs star will see to it that Swift gets some much-needed rest and relaxation.
