Sports Icon Billie Jean King Sends Strong Message to Taylor Swift

It's no secret that Taylor Swift has transcended the music world with her relatable hits and endearing personality.

She has gained fans from different backgrounds, including those from the sports world. Her much-publicized relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has made her even more familiar in the sports industry.

Big-time athletes like tennis legends Serena Williams and Roger Federer, NFL heroes Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers, WNBA star Caitlin Clark and NBA champion Pau Gasol are just among those who watched Swift's "Eras Tour." The massive 21-country tour set a new record after grossing $2 billion.

The feat was congratulated by another athlete-turned-Swiftie: Tennis icon Billie Jean King.

"This milestone is worthy of praise, of course, but @taylorswift13's impact on music and culture goes well beyond this," wrote King on X.

The 39-time Grand Slam winner also shared when she first became a fan of Swift.

"I became a fan after watching her 2020 documentary, 'Miss Americana,' and was so impressed with her generosity and kindness toward her fans and the people on her team.

"I just love the inclusivity of the friendship bracelet trading trend that happens at her concerts."

The 81-year-old King was at the forefront of inclusivity in sports during her heyday. She famously won the "Battle of the Sexes" against Bobby Riggs in 1973 and pushed for equal pay in tennis.

In 1981, she publicly came out as gay, being one of the first well-known athletes to do so. Like Swift, King is a staunch ally of the LGBTQ+ community.

As King mentioned, Swift's generosity has also gained her many admirers. It was reported that the award-winning recording artist gave the crew of the "Eras Tour" $197 million in bonuses.
