Defense/Special Teams Rankings: NFL Fantasy Week 1

The Baltimore Ravens should be a solid DST for Week 1

One of the hardest positions to rank ahead of Week 1 for fantasy football is the defense/special teams. Without a preseason, it's is especially hard to see how teams will fare against one another. We can look at last year and other previous years, but players on defense change, and there are always injuries to contend with. The New England Patriots were one of the best DSTs for fantasy (and in real life) in 2019. They are ranked No. 2 for Week 1, as they host the Miami Dolphins. This squad should continue to be one of the top fantasy options from week to week.

In previous years, there were always defenses to stream when they faced certain teams. Often, the Jets, the Browns and the Jaguars were those teams (among others). For Week 1, the team facing the Jets (Buffalo Bills) is ranked No. 1. The Baltimore Ravens (a solid defensive unit as well) face the Browns and are ranked No. 3. The Indianapolis Colts face the Jacksonville Jaguars and are ranked No. 8 for Week 1. This ranking is more for the opponent, although at 66 percent owned, many fantasy owners think the Colts DST will be solid in 2020.
