It's Week 14, time to queue up one of my favorite commercials of all time! Because if you are here, there's a good chance you either need one more win before the fantasy playoffs or you are already in the playoffs. As for me, the Buccaneers defense/special teams (DST) made it a very bad day for me. And I'm probably allowing my Week 14 DST rankings to be swayed by last week too much.
To be honest, not too many bad days for me this year as I actually had one of my best years yet. I am going to make the playoffs in four out of five leagues but I'm not here to gloat. Because the one where I failed to make the playoffs is the one I want to talk about now. It's a 2-QB league. At my QB2, I had two choices for whom to start. I could go with the Super Bowl-winning Nick Foles against the joke of a TB secondary that is giving up the fourth-most fantasy points to QBs or I could go with journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick against one of the better pass defenses in Philadelphia.
Well, I'm sure you can guess what I did. And that decision cost me 35 points! Had I won, I would have been in sole possession of third place. Instead, it became a six-way tie for third place! And due to our league's complex but fair tiebreakers, I ended up out of the playoffs. And even worse, the difference in the final tiebreaker of seasonal points was less than 35 points! Even if I lost, those points alone would have made the difference. Talk about a bad day.
So getting back to the Week 14 rankings, yes the matchup is important to consider. But you never know. The good news is if things don't work out for you, at least misery loves company!
