Seattle's defense has a nice matchup this week against Carolina's inconsistent offense
Both before and after I submit my weekly fantasy defense/special teams (DST) rankings, I like to read what a lot of other industry experts say about the various options out there. And I will apologize on behalf of some of my cohorts. Because some of it is really... let's go with the word bad.
For example, I read one DFS article last week (no, I'm not talking about mine) that claimed that for DST you should grab one of the cheaper options instead of one of the proven, yet more expensive, units. The author's argument was that the last couple of weeks a number of the cheaper DSTs have been paying off while the more expensive ones were not. That is a true statement.
Unfortunately, that statement suffers from recency bias, confirmation bias, and of course, a small sample size. And yes, Atlanta which has been one of the worst defenses this year, finished as the No. 4 DST last week. But seven of the top 10 DSTs finished as DST1s last week. It will be interesting to see what perspective this same author takes this week!
Yet to say that last week's trend proves the author was wrong is equally as shortsighted. I will simply say there is not just one magic solution. Put another way, there are a lot of ways to skin a cat. And speaking of skinning cats, I expect the Seahawks to absolutely buzz the Panthers, who seem to lack any offensive identity right now. But for that matter, I also seem to like the Panthers DST more than experts consensus as well. See below for where I have both of them plus your likely DST for Week 15!
