Defense/Special Teams Rankings: NFL Fantasy Week 2

Defense/Special Teams Rankings Week 5: Chandler Jones/Arizona Cardinals

Chandler Jones and the Cardinals DST feasted on the Titans last week

Unlike my Week 2 kicker rankings, there is nothing too dramatic in defense/special teams (DST) rankings. I am pretty aligned with the ECR (Expert Consensus Rankings) and there's no DST making a double-digit jump after last week. Therefore, I will share a little DST-related story before this week's rankings.

In my auction keeper league, I did not want to spend more than $1 on a DST. This might sound obvious, but the top defenses often go for $2 or $3 due to various league rules.

I also know the owners of this league, which has been around for nearly 20 years. If a DST is highly regarded (say top 10), owners will come over the top of another trying to secure a DST just to mess with that owner sometimes. One of my fellow owners two years ago for example had to nominate a DST six times before he successfully secured himself a defense.

Henceforth, we are in the midst of the auction this year when lo and behold I missed out on my top five or six DST options. It was my turn to nominate and I wanted to secure myself a DST I liked but without paying more than a buck. I looked at my rankings and decided to nominate the Cardinals whom I had within my top dozen DSTs but I know most did not. My nomination was met with quite a few raised eyebrows and questioning glances. "You guys know J.J. Watt is now on the Cards, right?" I impetuously blurted out. That opened up a floodgate of comments ridiculing my pick. Care to guess what ended up happening?

That's right, the Cardinals scored the most DST fantasy points in Week 1 (thanks in large part to Chandler Jone! Anyway, here are your Week 2 DST rankings.
