DFS Running Back Studs: Ekeler, Barkley, Henry Will Dominate in Week 7

DFS players should add at least one of these running backs to their lineups in Week 7.

Entering Week 7, there are only two running backs (Austin Ekeler – 23.00 and Saquon Barkley – 20.68) averaging more than 20.00 fantasy points per game. Nick Chubb (8.00 fantasy points) was the only running back in the top 10 to underperform expectations in Week 6, while four other players had a bye. Here’s a look at the top five running backs in average fantasy points over the last three starts:

· Austin Ekeler (31.70)

· Josh Jacobs (26.50)

· Leonard Fournette (25.57)

· Derrick Henry (25.40)

· Christian McCaffrey (24.00)

Week 7 Positional Rankings: QB I RB I WR I TE I DST I K I Flex

Austin Ekeler, Los Angeles Chargers (DraftKings – $8,300/FanDuel – $9,500)

Over the past three weeks, Ekeker has been a beast. He has totaled 391 combined yards with six touchdowns and 20 catches, pushing him to first in running back scoring (138.00 fantasy points). The Chargers gave him 21 touches per game over this span while gaining 6.1 yards per rush. Last week, Los Angeles had him on the field for a season-high in 66 percent of their snaps. Seattle had surprising success slowing down the Cardinals’ running backs (14/44), but Kyler Murray ran for 100 yards on 10 carries. They allow 5.1 yards per rush with nine touchdowns. The Seahawks rank 26th in running back defense (25.85 FPPG). Javonte Williams (21.8), Cordarrelle Patterson (25.3), Jamaal Williams (27.9), and Alvin Kamara (28.4) scored more than 20.00 fantasy points. Ekeler looks poised to shine again in this matchup.

Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans (DraftKings – $8,200/FanDuel – $9,200)

Henry had a touchdown in four straight games (five total) while gaining over 100 yards in his last three starts (143, 147, and 132). The Titans also upped his role over this span in the passing game (5/58, 3/33, and 2/30). He is now on pace for 1,799 yards from scrimmage with 17 touchdowns and 34 catches. In Week 4, Henry gained 147 yards with one touchdown and three catches against Indianapolis. The Colts regressed against running backs over the past three weeks (29.50, 25.00, and 31.00 fantasy points), leading to them sliding to 23rd in running back defense. They allow 4.1 yards per rush with 33 catches for 297 yards. Henry earns his keep by elite touches per game (22.8 – 26.7 over the past three contests).

Saquon Barkley, New York Giants (DraftKings – $7,900/FanDuel – $9,300)

Over the first six weeks, the Giants scored 13 touchdowns over 63 possessions, with eight scores on the ground. New York averages 32.7 rushes per game, with their quarterbacks stealing 50 runs (266 yards and two touchdowns). Barkley remains a steady player in fantasy points (22,60, 18.20, 19.60, and 18.50) over the previous four games. However, he continues to battle a shoulder issue that probably needs time to heal. Barkley is on pace to gain 2,185 combined yards with 11 touchdowns and 60 catches. The Jaguars fell to 27th against running backs (27.10 FPPG) despite allowing only 3.6 yards per rush. Despite their low ranking, four offenses rushed for under 100 yards (17/66, 12/51, 10/24, and 15/49/1) with their running backs. In addition, Jacksonville struggled in three matchups vs. backs in the passing game (10/92, 11/63, and 13/84). Barkley rates well, but some underlying information suggests his week may fall short of expectations.
