The Week 4 daily fantasy football (DFS) picks article is going to be a bit shorter than usual. I'll still give you two options at each position. However, I'm running way behind, so far less pontificating, tweets, "making with the funny," etc. I'll have maybe a sentence or factoid about why I am recommending the player for that week.
Some might be applauding the decisions, others not so much. We will return to "our regularly scheduled format" next week.
As a reminder, I will go through each position and list one "safe" pick and one "high-risk/high-reward" pick. For those of you familiar with DFS, the first is essentially a cash-game play and the second is a GPP play. I also will make sure that said player is priced proportionately about the same across DraftKings, FanDuel, and the other major sites. For those of you unfamiliar with DFS, do yourself a favor and look up cash games vs. GPPs. Or hit me up on Twitter (@MarkStrausberg) and I will explain it to you personally.
Here are the Week 4 DFS picks.
Safe Quarterback Week 4 Pick
Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers at Dallas Cowboys (DK $6000, FD $7200)
Dak Prescott was the preseason favorite for Comeback Player of the Year but right now, Darnold is miles ahead of him and with Dallas giving up the second-most passing yards per game, I don't see that margin getting smaller this week.
High Risk/Reward Quarterback Week 4 Pick
Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs (DK $6900, FD $7900)
Hurts is still not reliable enough to qualify as a "safe" quarterback pick in my book, yet Kansas City is tied with Detroit for the most points allowed in the league this season.
Safe Running Back Week 4 Pick
Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans at New York Jets (DK $8800, FD $10,200)
Nobody has more rushing yards through three games than Henry's 353.
High Risk/Reward Running Back Week 4 Pick
Javonte Williams, Denver Broncos vs. Baltimore Ravens (DK $5000, FD $5900)
Baltimore has allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to RBs this season and now Melvin Gordon III is questionable for Sunday. Williams might be too safe of a pick for this spot!
Safe Wide Receiver Week 4 Pick
Calvin Ridley, Atlanta Falcons vs. Washington Football Team (DK $7000, FD $7200)
Ridley has yet to hit 70 receiving yards, but he is still being heavily targeted with 29 through three weeks. Washington meanwhile is allowing the second-most fantasy points to WRs. Expect this to be a "get right" game for Ridley.
High Risk/Reward Receiver Week 4 Pick
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Tennessee Titans at New York Jets (DK $3200, FD $5300)
Both A.J. Brown and Julio Jones have been ruled out. Someone besides Derrick Henry will have to catch passes. Chester Rogers and Josh Reynolds are possible as well, but NWI is the best bet.
Safe Tight End Week 4 Pick
Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs at Philadelphia Eagles (DK $8100, FD $8200)
Week in and week out, he has one of the highest floors of any TE. This week is no exception.
High Risk/High Reward Tight End Week 4 Pick
Evan Engram, New York Giants at New Orleans Saints (DK $3000, FD $5100)
Engram has done next to nothing so far this year, but part of that can be blamed on injury. Speaking of injury, both Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepherd have been ruled out. Those who drafted Engram might finally be rewarded this week.
Safe Defense/Special Teams (DST) Week 4 Pick
Tennessee Titans at New York Jets (DK, $3900 FD $4900)
The Titans have been as good or bad as their matchup this year; the Jets' offense has 20 points through three games.
High Risk/Reward Defense/Special Teams (DST) Week 4 Pick
Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears (DK $2200, FD $4100)
See my Week 4 DST rankings article for an explanation.
