Week 8 DFS Quarterback Rankings: Three Mid-Tier Passers to Roster

These under-the-radar passers can help DFS players cash in big in DraftKings and FanDuel.

Many second-tier quarterbacks have yet to elevate their game this season. The top 10 options averaged more than 20.00 fantasy points, but the next 10 quarterbacks range between 16.26 and 19.75 fantasy points. For any of these second-level players to pay off in daily fantasy contests, they need to score more than 25.00 points in DraftKings or FanDuel scoring.

Week 8 Positional Rankings: QB I RB I WR I TE I DST I K I Flex

Teams on bye: Kansas City, Los Angeles Chargers

Here are the best mid-tier quarterbacks in Week 8:

Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins (DraftKings – $6,200/FanDuel – $7,700)

Since his other-worldly game in Week 2 (470/6), Tagovailoa has been a losing investment in his three other starts (186/1, 110/0 – left early with a concussion, and 261/1). Despite the impression of failure, he does have 11 completions of 20 yards or more over his last 42. The Dolphins’ quarterbacks averaged 8.1 yards per pass attempt over their first seven matchups, with excellent production from the Dolphins' wide receivers (110/1,579/7 on 164 targets). The Lions rank 29th against the quarterbacks (23.74 FPPG), with failure in three matchups (PHI – 333/1, WAS – 337/3, and SEA – 320/2). Detroit also has risk defending the run (185/977/11). The Lions are allowing 5.3 yards per carry, inviting plenty of scoring by Miami’s offense. The coin toss is between the Dolphins’ scoring on the ground or via the pass.

Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys (DraftKings – $6,600/FanDuel – $7,200)

The Bears’ defense continues to play better than expected while showing more risk against the run (221/1,048/10), pushing fantasy managers toward Tony Pollard in this matchup (Ezekiel Elliott is expected to miss this game). Opposing quarterbacks averaged only 27.6 passes, helping Chicago’s defense vs. the pass (8th – 16.44 FPPG). Kirk Cousins (323/2) had the most success. The Bears have struggled with quarterbacks in the run game (38/191/3). Dallas wants to run the ball and play elite defense. The Cowboys have yet to pass for more than 235 yards with only six passing scores. Dak Prescott looks miles away from his value in 2021 (4,595 yards and 38 touchdowns), but his resume is long enough to reach a high ceiling if Dallas ups its passing game against the Bears. Prescott needs to score on the ground in this matchup to help his playable window in the daily tournaments.

Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings (DraftKings – $6,100/FanDuel – $7,800)

Cousins has yet to produce an impact showing in 2022. He ranks 11th in quarterback scoring (19.75 FPPG), with no games of more than two touchdowns. The Vikings averaged 41.5 passes from Week 2 to Week 5 over four matchups, giving Cousins plenty of chances to shine if he can hit on more long plays and scores. Over the past three years, he has averaged 7.9 yards per pass attempt with 170 completions over 20 yards. This year, Cousins is averaging only 6.6 yards on his 228 passes, suggesting he needs a correction game in yards. Arizona ranks 24th against quarterbacks (23.05 FPPG), with failure in three matchups (KC – 365/5, PHI – 300/2, and NO – 409/4). Any investment in Cousins comes with the high-flying Justin Jefferson.
