Love them or loathe them, but unless your fantasy football league doesn't use them, kickers are a necessary part of your roster. And just like every other position, sometimes the difference between winning and losing in a given week is how many points you do or don't get out of your kicker.
When it comes to evaluating the kicker pool for 2018, the operative word is opportunity. Consider that among the top 10 kickers in fantasy points (Athlon scoring) last season, only one of them didn't rank in the top 10 in field goal attempts.
Generally speaking, the top offenses are considered the best bets for fantasy kickers, which is why New England's Stephen Gostkowski has been the first kicker taken in fantasy drafts for several years running, but that's not always the case either.
In 2017, fantasy's No. 1 kicker, Greg Zuerlein, relied on the NFL's 10th-ranked offense (Rams) to give him scoring opportunities, while others in the top 10 at the position included Justin Tucker (Baltimore, 27th) and Ryan Succop (Tennessee, 23rd).
There's no disputing that kicker is the easiest spot to fill on a roster, since every team only needs one. But which one you end up taking could have as much impact on how your season turns out as any other position. Don’t say we didn't warn you.
