Flex Rankings Week 16: Ito Smith

We start the Week 16 fantasy football flex rankings with a little postscript to last week. I mentioned how I hated the fact that I was recommending a player in Chad Hansen who was in my opponent's lineup last week. And Hansen absolutely has a strong week and made me look somewhat smart.

And my opponent ended up not playing Hansen. Good news, right? Nope. Unfortunately for me, he swapped out Hansen for another player I also recommended last week, Tony Pollard. Well, you know how that went. So yes, I got bounced out of the playoffs in that league. And the real kick-in-the-pants is that I made some pretty heads-up moves in advance of Week 16, including grabbing this week's featured Flex player, Ito Smith.

So no, I won't be starting Smith this week. But I would have! I've got Smith as a top-70 flex play, meaning that for many of you he might absolutely be worth starting this weekend. Raheem Morris has already announced that Smith is now the Falcons' lead RB.

Smith is not going to necessarily win anyone a fantasy championship. However, he does bring a decent floor this week against Kansas City, who is giving up the 11th-most fantasy points to running backs this season. Given that the Chiefs are rarely trailing late in games, they should not be allowing that many fantasy points to RB. But they are.

For those owners who might now be without the services of Cam Akers or Antonio Gibson for example, Smith makes for a partial but viable replacement.
