Playing at home on Thursday night, Harrison Butker is the No. 1-ranked kicker for Week 1
Many fantasy football leagues have eliminated the kicker position (the horrors!), but for those that still have one as part of their roster, they often want to know who to start. Kickers are often drafted in the last round or two on draft day, and their value is seen as insignificant to their team. However, many seasoned fantasy owners can recount a time when their kicker (or their opponent's kicker) either won or lost the week for them. In fact, during some weeks, kickers score more points than their tight end (or even other offensive position players).
In looking at Week 1, both kickers in Thursday night's game (Harrison Butker and Ka'imi Fairbairn) are ranked inside the top 12, with Butker being the top-ranked kicker. While the rest of the league hasn't had a lot of practice working together, kickers should be just fine. Typically, both Kansas City and Houston are high-scoring offenses, and Thursday night games typically have a lot of points by the kickers. There are a few new kickers in the league this year, but until fantasy owners see how they perform, they are ranked No. 20 and later.
