A quick gander at my fantasy kicker rankings for Week 2 and you'll see that mine are fairly aligned with the ECR (Expert Consensus Rankings), minus one exception.
That exception is Evan McPherson.
I'm not ready to grant him K1 status just yet. But no kicker stood out for positive reasons more than he did this past weekend. For one, he's a rookie, but exuded a veteran-like attitude and confidence as he casually kicked the game-winning field goal in OT. It made him the youngest kicker to ever hit a game-winning field goal in overtime.
However, those who follow kickers should not be surprised. McPherson had quite a career at the University of Florida, setting an SEC record for FG percentage. He also made five of eight FGs from 50-plus yards while there. He was then the one kicker selected in the NFL draft this year when the Bengals took him in the fifth round. The pick was met with snickers, but the Bengals might be the ones laughing last.
