Malik Willis' Debut Has Fantasy Football Dynasty Managers Buzzing

Malik Willis, Tennessee Titans

The Titans' rookie quarterback put on a dazzling performance during Tennessee's preseason opener.

The Tennessee Titans started rookie quarterback Malik Willis in their preseason opener Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens and the heralded third-round pick put all his talents on display.

Willis, who was selected No. 86 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, is off the fantasy football radar this season as he sits and learns the position behind veteran Ryan Tannehill. But fantasy football managers in dynasty leagues are taking notice of the rookie’s preseason performance.

On second-and-goal, early in the second quarter, the former Liberty and Auburn product showed off his rushing ability with an impressive six-yard touchdown run. Willis, facing pressure, sprinted away from the pass rush and outran Raven defenders to the corner of the endzone.

In just 35 career collegiate games with the Flames, Willis rushed for 29 touchdowns while throwing for 48 scores. The dual-threat quarterback showed off his strong arm later in the first half with a 48-yard pass to wide receiver Racey McMath. The beautiful play-action pass helped set up a 33-yard field goal by Randy Bullock resulting in a 10-7 Tennessee lead.

The athletic quarterback showed why dynasty owners should consider using 2022 draft capital to acquire the potential future of the Titans' offense. Willis played the entire first half and completed 6-of-11 passes for 107 passing yards while adding 38 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Willis currently ranks as the overall QB2 behind only Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett in dynasty rookie rankings.
