It is extremely painful to see Justin Herbert atop my fantasy quarterback rankings for Week 14. I had a nice little run with him, but I was forced to trade him last week in my keeper league.
Now what you need to know is the intricacies of this league prevent Herbert from being kept. And the assets I acquired can be kept. But it also made sense for the owner who acquired Herbert to do so as well. He had Jalen Hurts as his top quarterback, who happens to be on bye this week. And he is pushing in to make a run this year. I, however, have a strong team but find myself on the outside looking in, partly due to the fact that I am second in points against.
This is not me whining. Such is fantasy football. Sometimes you are just unfortunate. It happens. I am guessing that the trade deadline has passed in most of my readers' leagues. But I figured I would take this chance to mention two takeaways for you.
One, even the best experts have leagues in which they fall short, even if it is just bad luck. So if you're bemoaning your fortunes this year, be aware you are not alone and it even happens at the top. Secondly, I know some leagues seem to have a very limited amount of trading if at all. However, this owner and I got on a call (imagine that — actually speaking to one another versus just text or league message board!), and figured out what each other's limits and needs were. And within 10 minutes we were able to work out a trade. Something to keep in mind!
And oh yeah, Herbert is coming off of his third 300-yard passing performance in a row and takes on the Giants this week. The Giants have allowed the ninth-most touchdown passes in the league this season. So yeah, Herbert is a painful but easy choice to be atop my QB rankings this week.
