Lots of QBs stories out there from Week 1 for fantasy managers to digest. I did like Jameis Winston more than the ECR (Expert Consensus Rankings) and that's a nice story. But that's not whom I want to discuss this week for the Week 2 QB rankings.
I want to discuss Justin Herbert. Herbert had an acceptable fantasy week, compiling 337 passing yards with one TD and one INT. Not horrendous, but nothing to get excited about either, right?
But I really like what I saw from Herbert in that game. He did not once look frazzled. And with the Chargers once again embroiled in a close game, you could hear the powder-blue jersey-clad brethren gritting their teeth. How would they lose it this time?
However, Herbert led the Chargers on a fourth-quarter drive that gave them the W. The box score doesn't look pretty, but he passed the eye test on Sunday. Remember, the Washington Football Team has a pretty good defense that was second in the NFL in both total and passing defense and averaged an interception a game. Perhaps I'm a little biased. Full disclosure: I'm a Herbert owner in my only money league where I've done everything but win the Super Bowl. But he was my one keeper. And yes, I actually sat him this week in favor of Matt Ryan (gulp). But that is the last time I will make that mistake.
So yes, I like Herbert far more than the ECR this week, ranking him an eye-opening fourth overall this week. There's some emotion behind it, but there are some strong statistics to back it up. Last season in his rookie year he threw more than 30 TD passes and for more than 4,300 yards. With a shootout likely this weekend against Dallas, Herbert should easily finish in the top five.
