I hope you have noticed the changing of the guard at quarterback in fantasy football. Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Eli Manning... maybe they play another year or two, but they are on their way out. Guys like Jimmy Garoppolo are ready for their time in the sun. Of course, that won't happen this week with the 49ers on bye (as well as the Jets). But did you see what the young bucks did this weekend? With the exception of the man taken at the top of the draft (Kyler Murray), not a bad weekend for the sophomore and freshman quarterback classes, eh?
I am very impressed with all of them. Daniel Jones is just out of QB1 territory for me this week. And if you're in a league that doesn't dock for INTs, he might just be a QB1 this week. For one, with Saquon Barkley out I expect the Giants to give Jones plenty of opportunities to learn his trade. In addition, the Washington secondary is beatable, to say the least. But I only have Jones a few spots ahead of the experts. Mason Rudolph, however, I have nearly six spots higher than the experts. He got off to a shaky start on Sunday, but he got better as the game progressed and I expect him to have a field day with what Cincinnati calls a defense.
I also was very impressed with Kyle Allen, but last week is his ceiling and was a bit of a perfect storm against a Cardinals secondary that badly needs Patrick Peterson to return. Gardner Minshew might have actually impressed the most, but I only raised him a couple of spots because the Broncos at home can be a very tough matchup.
At the top of course is (yawn) Patrick Mahomes. Just a couple spots behind him is Russell Wilson, but I already mentioned how the Cardinals have issues with their DBs. The other veteran I moved up is Philip Rivers. The oddsmakers are favoring the Chargers over the Dolphins by 17 points! I will state up front that I would stay away from a West Coast coast team giving 17 points playing a 1 p.m. ET game on the East Coast, but that line does reflect just how much better than the Dolphins the Chargers are. But even if Miami holds Los Angeles under 30 points, I still think Rivers is a top-10 fantasy QB this week.
Teams on bye: New York Jets, San Francisco
