Russell Wilson will look to continue his MVP-worthy season at home against Baltimore's reshuffled secondary
Lost in the hype of Lamar Jackson putting up 152 rushing yards last week, something that no doubt brought a smile to his fantasy owners' faces, was the fact that neither he nor Andy Dalton did very much with their arm in that game. Dalton had plenty of chances to find open receivers downfield but consistently overthrew them. A better quarterback would have made the Ravens' secondary pay.
What does that have to do with my Week 7 fantasy QB rankings you ask? Well, Russell Wilson is a better quarterback. He faces the aforementioned Baltimore secondary on Sunday, which is why I have him much higher in my rankings compared to the industry consensus for Week 7. Even with the Ravens acquiring former Rams corner Marcus Peters in a trade on Tuesday, I am fairly confident Wilson won't suffer from the multitude of overthrows that Dalton does.
Speaking of suffering, Falcons fans have it tough with Atlanta tied for the worst record in the NFC. I don't love what their opponent the Rams have done this year either. However, Matt Ryan seemingly has a tougher matchup (LA's secondary just added Jalen Ramsey in a trade and the pass rush is already fierce) than the three quarterbacks ranked above him, so Ryan is my lowest quarterback this week vs. consensus.
Getting back to Dalton, I was sent this map earlier in the week. Yes, it pretty much follows where NFL teams are located. But I did find it amusing that Ohio was one of the two states with the largest number of fantasy football complaint tweets. My guess is that Ohio residents probably have one of the highest ownership rates of both Dalton and Baker Mayfield. Both have been fantasy nightmares.
But Mayfield owners can take some solace in the fact the Browns are on bye this week, along with Pittsburgh, Carolina, and Tampa Bay. So if you need a quarterback this week, I love Sam Darnold in 2-QB leagues and you certainly could do worse for a bye-week fill-in in standard leagues.
Teams on bye: Carolina, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay
